MDref and the MDref Explorer

MDRef is Clinical's drug database, accessed via the MDref Explorer.

The MDref Explorer interface allows you to:
To open the MDref Explorer, either:
  • Click MDref
  • Select Resources > MDref
  • Press F8
When MDref Explorer is opened from the Clinical front screen, it displays the first item in the MDref database. However, if MDref Explorer is opened via the patient's Clinical Window, it is opened to coincide with whatever item is currently selected in the patient's medication list.

To locate a specific item in MDref, either:
  • Enter the item name in the Enter Drug Name text box. As you type, the highlight will jump to the first matching item in the database.
  • Filter the item list via the Search by Drug Class drop-down menu.
  • Use the navigation tree to filter product groups.
Button Functionality within MDref
Prescribe Prescribes the selected medication. This button is available only if you have accessed MDref from within the patient's record.
Details To view more-detailed information about the item. From the MDref Details window you can access Product Information about the item, and further information about the drug company.
Interaction To view detailed information about how the selected item interacts with other drugs and conditions.
Preg. Code To view the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee (ADEC) Pregnancy Code for the selected item. If medications are prescribed to a patient with a current pregnancy, the Pregnancy code for the medication is checked and a warning given if the drug falls into Pregnancy Category C or worse.
PI To access Product Information about the selected item.
CMI To access Consumer Medicine Information about the selected item.
Monograph To access Independent Drug Monographs about the selected item.
Notes To display further information about the selected item. This feature is not available to all items.
NPS RADAR Click to display any associated NPS Radar information for the selected medication.
