Clinical 4.4 Release Notes

The following information outlines the enhancements and fixes contained in the Clinical 4.4 update.

The Clinical 4.4 update is a full release that can be installed clean or over previous public releases.

Assignment of Benefits

MedicalDirector products are already conformant with Services Australia's current Assignment of Benefit requirements, meaning practices using MedicalDirector software today can continue to bulk bill with confidence. Clinical release 4.4 builds on this foundation with enhancements to the existing DB4 post-assignment form, including updated form fields, database schema changes for improved audit storage, and refined consent capture workflows.

If your practice uses one of these partners, digital Assignment of Benefit consent capture is already available (or imminently available) and records are stored in your clinical system.

Bug Fixes

Correspondence:

  • If you inactivate an addressee in the Address Book, that addressee is not available for selection in the Letter Writer.
  • In password-protected emails generated by the Letter Writer, the missing space has been added between the words "password sent to" and the password.
  • Alternate Email has been updated to ensure:
    • The BC Document Transfer can transfer documents to Bluechip successfully.
    • ACL eOrders are populated.
  • Password-protected emails sent from Documents tabs now retain formatting.

Pathology:

  • When you order pathology for a non-Medicare patient and Billing is set to Direct, the Pathology Request window remains open so you can enter additional billing details.
  • When you reuse an existing pathology request:
    • The Reuse Previous Pathology Request window does not display duplicate pathology test requests with missing details.
    • The request date is included in the new request.
  • In the Reprint Previous Pathology Request window, no error message is displayed if you print a pathology request other than the most recent request.

Patient records:

  • In the Vaccination window, the Sequence field now accepts numbers from 1 to 20. To record a B for a birth vaccination, use Provider Digital Access (PRODA).
  • The context menu is no longer displayed by default when accessing the Allergies/Adverse Reactions/Warning tab.
  • No error message is displayed when you open the Holding File window in the patient record.
  • In the Patient Search window, if the last search condition is negative, for example the patient is currently not taking lisinopril, and you change the Drug/Condition setting, then the negative search condition is not changed to a positive condition.
  • In the Patient Reviver, you can sort the list of patients by clicking Sex at Birth. No error message is displayed.
  • Weight, height, and BMI measurements now display immediately within patient measurement graphs. It is not necessary to refresh the screen to display newly-entered values.
  • The Renal Function tool consistently saves added values when adding multiple values in a single session without closing and re-opening the toolbox.
  • In the Clinical window's Obstetrics tab, if you click End Pregnancy to end a pregnancy that is over 42 weeks, Overdue Pregnancy is updated correctly. The current pregnancy number is retained and no duplicate pregnancy is created.
  • In the Cervical Screening tab in the patient's clinical record, the text in the Date and Result columns does not overlap when you preview the PDF.
  • The Medicare item numbers added to progress notes during one visit are now limited to a maximum total of 50 characters to prevent errors.
  • The Do Not Show for this patient prompt setting for drug prompts is now correctly saved so the prompt does not reappear.
  • Password-protected emails sent from the Documents tabs now retain formatting.
  • The title Master is no longer truncated to Maste when passed between applications during the linking process.

Holding File:

  • The Preview Pane correctly displays PDF files that are embedded in imported HL7 files.
  • If you add a recall via the Holding File tab in the patient file, a recall detail is now added to the progress notes.
  • When viewing documents in the Holding File, the No Errorblock message is not displayed.

Import/Export:

  • The Import/Export Wizard has been updated to reduce XML export failures.
  • In the Tool Box, when you click Print, the patient data is printed once, not twice.

Technical Updates

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader is no longer a prerequisite for Clinical and is not installed automatically. To support this change, Hcn.DH.PdfPrinter now uses WebView2 for printing.
  • SQL 2022 is now the default SQL version for new installations.
  • Some customers have reported performance issues after installing MedicalDirector applications on a SQL Server 2025 instance or upgrading their existing MedicalDirector application's SQL Server installation to SQL Server 2025. MedicalDirector applications perform normally on SQL Server 2022 and earlier versions. After investigation, the performance issues appear to be related to changes in SQL Server 2025’s query processing engine that were introduced in an update late in 2025. At this time, it is not recommended that MedicalDirector customers upgrade to SQL Server 2025. MedicalDirector is investigating the matter further and recommends that customers install only the SQL Server versions listed in the Microsoft OS and SQL Server Compatibility Matrix.
  • The minimum operating system requirement is now Windows 10 or Server 2016.
  • The minimum screen resolution is now 1920 x 1080 at 16-bit colour.
  • The WebView2 implementation has been upgraded.
  • Improved the accessibility of the MyHealth Record when using remote sessions such as Terminal Services or Remote Desktop.
