Opening a Patient's Record

To start a consultation, open a patient's record.

About this task

Opening a record starts the visit timer.

A patient record can be edited by one user at a time. If you try to open a patient's record that has already been opened by another user, you can either view a snapshot of the patient's record in read-only mode, or to cancel the attempt to open it. The snapshot is taken at the moment you open the patient record; you can't change it and it is not updated if the other user changes the patient record.

Procedure

  1. Select Patient > Open or press F2 to open the Select Patient from List window.
This window appears empty unless Clinical is linked to Pracsoft, in which case it will be populated with any patients who are currently in the Pracsoft Waiting Room.
  2. Locate the patient record with Patient Search.
  3. (Optional) To display patients who have been marked as inactive, set Include Inactive Patients. Inactive patients are displayed in red.
  4. To open the patient record, either:
    • Double-click the patient's name.
    • Highlight their name and click OK.
    • Highlight their name and press Enter.

Results
