About this task

Outstanding requests are requests that do not have a corresponding result checked-off and assigned to a patient's record. In the Outstanding Requests window, you can compare outstanding requests with assigned results. Outstanding requests that match already-assigned results can be deleted.

Procedure

To manage outstanding requests:
  1. Either:
    • To display all outstanding requests, from the Clinical front screen, click Correspondence > Outstanding Requests.
    • To display outstanding requests for a specific practitioner, from the Clinical front screen, click Correspondence > Outstanding Requests. In the All Doctors list, select the practitioner. Click OK.
    • To display outstanding requests for a specific patient, from the patient's Clinical window, click Correspondence > Outstanding Requests.
  2. Optionally, to include deleted requests in the Outstanding Requests list, set Include deleted requests.
  3. Optionally, to include discarded eOrder requests in the Outstanding Requests list, set Include discarded eOrder requests.
  4. In the Outstanding Requests window:
    • Black requests are standard orders, that is, they are not eOrders.
    • Green requests are incomplete eOrders.
    • Red requests have the same patient's name and request date as a result that has been received. It is the responsibility of the practitioner to check that the result is for the requested test and is complete.
    • Blue requests have been deleted.
  5. Double-click the outstanding request you want to check.
  6. The Investigation Results window displays a list of all results saved in that patient's record.
  7. Compare the details of results with the outstanding request you double-clicked.
    Note:
    • The test name in the request might not match the test name in the result because some laboratories use their own naming conventions.
    • One request can include multiple tests but each test result is returned separately, for example, one request could return five results. Before you delete an outstanding request, check that all results for the request have been returned and marked-off.
    • A request can require that results be returned periodically. Before you delete an outstanding request, check that the entire sequence of results has been returned and marked-off.
    • eOrders cannot be deleted.
  8. Click Close.
  9. If a result in the patient's record matches the outstanding request, you can delete that request from the Outstanding Requests window:
    • Select the outstanding result.
    • Click Delete > Yes.
  10. Optionally, to print a list of the outstanding requests within a selected date range, click Print. Select the time interval. Click OK. Follow the prompts to print the outstanding requests.

Results

The outstanding request is deleted.
