Requests - Pathology
Practitioners can initiate a pathology test request for a patient during their consultation.
Before you begin
Correspondence > Pathology Request (via the Clinical window)

Clinical must be configured to support the laboratory providers you intend to use. If a provider uses a customised Pathology Request Portal window, the Pathology Request Portal window can appear differently in your Clinical and have added functionality.
- Review the Investigations Options.
- For convenience, we suggest selecting your most-used provider as your default.
- Clinical can be configured to send pathology requests electronically.
- Requests Print Options can be configured to print pathology requests.
- Optionally, click Setup Favourites to set up your favourite pathology requests. These requests appear at the top of the default Pathology Request Portal window.

Procedure
To generate a pathology request:

In the toolbar of the patient's Clinical window, click
Pathology
Request.
- In the Pathology Request Portal window, in the Provider list, select the pathology provider you want to use. If your provider is not in the list, add it to the Address Book.
- In Copy To, select any other practitioners or specialists who are to receive copies of the results. You can select a maximum of three practitioners or specialists. The names in this list come from the Address Book.
- To send a copy of the result to a practitioner who is not in the Address Book, click Other Copy Doctor. Enter their details. Click OK.
- Click Reference Material to select the provider's laboratory location, providing the location is registered with Clinical. Select the laboratory. Click OK.
- In Request, select or search for the pathology test you want. If you select a test in Available Tests, click > to move it to Requested Tests to be Printed.
- In Clinical Details, select or search for clinical information that you would like to include in the request. If you select a test in Available, click > to move it to Selected. You can also type clinical information in the Selected box. Optionally, if you set Save Text to List, your custom text will be added to the Available Tests list for use in later pathology requests.
- If the patient declines to have their test results uploaded to My Health Record, set Do not send reports to My Health Record.
- To reuse a previous pathology request, click Reuse Prev. Select the pathology request. Click Reuse. Pathology requests made in Clinical release 3.18 or later can be reused.
- To reprint a previous pathology request, click Reprint Prev. Select the pathology request. Click . Pathology requests made in Clinical release 3.18 or later can be reprinted.
- To order an SDS-based pathology or cytology request electronically via eOrders, click eOrders. Select the request. Click Close.
- Optionally, if the provider is configured to use pre-printed forms, click Details to record additional information, such as cytology details, billing details, or ancillary information to pre-printed Request forms. Select the details. Click OK.
- Click Print to print the request, or Send/Print to send it electronically.
