Using Smart Connect Pathology eRequests

Send pathology and cytology requests electronically and save the test results in the patient record.

About this task

Smart Connect Pathology eRequests can be accessed only by practitioners and nurse practitioners.

Procedure

  1. Select Patient > Open.
  2. Select the patient for whom you want to request a pathology/cytology test. For more information, see Opening a Patient's Record.
  3. Select Sidebar > Smart Connect Pathology eRequests IconSmart Connect. For more information, see Using the Smartbar.
  4. Click Pathology Requests icon Pathology Requests.
  5. In the Pathology Request Portal window, select the test you want to order for the patient.
  6. Click Save/Send. The details are sent to Smart Connect Pathology eRequests.
  7. In the Smart Connect window:
    • Review Patient Details & Tests Requested - You can add, edit, or delete tests from the request. Press Tab to add a new line.
    • Patient (or carer) Contact Details - These details come from the patient record. You can enter a contact number or email address but it is used only for this test request and not saved in the patient record.
    • Select Provider - The pathology provider who will perform the test.
    • Add note or special instructions - Any other information you want to send to the pathology provider about this patient or test.
    • Review practitioner detail - The details of the practitioner who ordered the test.
    • Consent and send request - Set Print Request to print the test request. Set Email PDF copy to patient/carer to send the test request in a secure email. The secure email has a PIN code that is the first four digits of the patient's date of birth in the format DDMM.
  8. Click E-sign and submit.

Results

The pathology request is:
  • Securely emailed to the pathology provider.
  • Printed, securely emailed to the patient, or both. Every patient must have either an emailed copy or a printed copy.
  • Added to the patient record.
  • Available in the Correspondence > Outstanding Requests area.
