Uninstall Clinical/Pracsoft.

Before you begin

  • Check that Clinical/Pracsoft is not running on the computer where you want to uninstall it.
  • Use the same version of the installation ISO that you used to install Clinical/Pracsoft.
    Tip:
    If you use a later version, the Installation Wizard will want to upgrade Clinical and/or Pracsoft before it does the uninstallation.
  • If you participate in MedicalDirector GPRN, you will also need the MedicalDirector GPRN Installer.
  • If you are uninstalling a server:
    • Ensure that Clinical and Pracsoft are not running on any computer.
    • If your practice uses MedicalDirector Mobility, ensure Mobility users have uploaded their data.
    • Perform a full backup. You can use this backup to restore your patient data if necessary.
    • If you plan to reinstall Clinical/Pracsoft and have a customised (non-default) installation, make a note of the installed locations of Clinical/Pracsoft, SQL Server, and ManageEzy. You will need this information when you reinstall them.
  • If you are uninstalling a mobile computer, upload your data.

Procedure

To uninstall Clinical/Pracsoft:
  1. Log in to Windows with local administrative privileges.
    Note:
    Do not attempt to uninstall Clinical/Pracsoft with the Microsoft Windows Control Panel. Instead, use the Installation Wizard for the uninstallation.
  2. Turn off MedicalDirector Automatic Update.
  3. Turn off Windows Automatic Update.
  4. Turn off any antivirus software.
  5. If you are uninstalling a terminal server:
    • Ensure there are no active or disconnected sessions listed in the Session Manager. If any sessions are active, the installation process can fail and users who log in might not be able to use the software successfully.
    • Ensure the terminal server is in install mode. To do this, start the Installation Wizard through Programs and Features by clicking Add New Programs, then browse to and double-click Setup.exe on the disc.
  6. Mount the installation ISO. To do this:
    • In File Explorer, select the disc image file. Click Mount.
    • In File Explorer, double-click the setup.exe file.
    • If you are installing a terminal server, launch the MedicalDirector Installer through Add/Remove Programs again to ensure the server is in returned to install mode.
  7. In the Installation Wizard, proceed through the initial prompts until the Computer Role window is displayed.
  8. In the Computer Role window:
    1. Click Enable Advanced Options > Uninstall Role > Yes.
    2. Click OK > Begin. The uninstallation begins. Messages about its progress are displayed.
      Tip:
      If any error messages are displayed during the uninstallation, contact MedicalDirector Customer Support for assistance. Do not attempt to resolve any issues without assistance.
  9. Click Finish.
  10. Turn on MedicalDirector Automatic Update.
  11. Turn on Windows Automatic Update.
  12. Turn on your antivirus software.

    • If you want to reinstall Clinical/Pracsoft, you can do it now.
    • If you want to do a full cleanout that completely removes Clinical/Pracsoft, or if you were asked to do so by MedicalDirector Customer Support, follow the extra steps below.
Follow these extra steps to do a full cleanout that completely removes Clinical/Pracsoft.
  1. In Windows, click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features (or Add/Remove Programs).
  2. Check whether the list of programs includes any programs beginning with HCN, ManageEzy, or MedicalDirector. Uninstall these programs.
  3. Rename these folders and windows registry keys, for example, by appending the current date or the word old, for example, the Health Communication Network folder could be renamed to Health Communication Network OLD.
    Tip:
    If you have a non- default installation, refer to Determining your Installed Location to find the locations of the folders that need to be renamed.
    • Folder:

      C:\Program Files(x86)\Health Communication Network\

    • Registry Keys:
      • HKey_Local_Machine > Software\WOW6432node\Health Communication Network\
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Redmap Networks\ManageEzy
      • HKEY_Current_User > Software\Health Communication Network
      • HKEY_Current_User > Software\WOW6432node\Health Communication Network\
  4. If you want to remove the SQL instance from a computer with the server or mobile role, refer to the Microsoft SQL Server documentation for instructions.
    Tip:
    Uninstall only the SQL instance that is used by Clinical/Pracsoft. Do not uninstall SQL instances that are used by third-party software.

Results

Clinical/Pracsoft is uninstalled.
