Sending Messages via MDExchange
Compose a message in Letter Writer and send it to another medical professional.
Procedure
- In Letter Writer, compose the message.
- Select File > Send via MDExchange.
- In the Send via MDExchange window, in the From list, select the sender of the correspondence.
-
Select the recipient or recipients for the correspondence.
- Type the name of the recipient into the To box. As you type, the box displays an auto-complete list of recipients. To see the list of all recipients, press Control+Space. Select the recipient.
-
To use filters to help locate the recipient, click To. Filter the displayed list of names using the filter criteria at the top of this window. Enter one or more search criteria and click Search. Select the recipient and click To or CC.Tip:Some users might have elected to be a private entry in the Address Book. To search for these users, you will need to know their full name, practice name, and private ID.
You can also search by Facility ID; an ID that uniquely identifies the recipient. When sending correspondence to Healthlink users via MDExchange, the Facility ID would be the recipient's Healthlink EDI ID.
- To select recipients from the MDExchange Recipients database, click
To. The Select MDExchange
Recipients window lists potential recipients from your Address
Book.Tip:You can only send messages to Address Book contacts that have been added via the on-line search. These have the
icon.Right-click a recipient and select:
- To to add them to the list of recipients.
- Cc to add them to the list of copy recipients.
- Delete to delete the MDX Address.
- When the list of recipients is complete, click OK.
-
In the Send via MDExchange window, optionally, click Sign With to digitally sign this
correspondence with a signing certificate other than the default for the selected
sender. In the Signing Certificate window, select
either:
- The certificate configured for the current user.
- The signing certificate configured for the practice.
- A HESA token.
Copies of signed, sent item are saved in the DMS (ManageEzy).
-
Optionally, in Send As, select the format in which you want
to send the message. The default format is Rich Text Format (RTF) but you can select
another format if the recipient cannot receive messages in RTF.
Tip:When you select a format other than the default for a particular recipient's facility, MDExchange saves that format as the default for that recipient's facility. If you have selected multiple recipients and change the format type, that format type is saved against the first recipient in the list.
- Optionally, set Send to My Health Record to simultaneously upload this document to the My Health Record system.
- Click Send.
