Registering MDExchange

Set up MDExchange messaging for your practice.

Before you begin

Registration for MDExchange requires an active Internet connection.

About this task

MDExchange messaging is available to practitioners who have a valid licence to use it and have registered via the MDExchange Registration Wizard.

Procedure

  1. From the Clinical front screen, select Tools > MDExchange > Registration Wizard.
  2. In the MDExchange Wizard Welcome screen, click Next.
  3. The MDExchange Licence Agreement appears. Read the agreement.
  4. If you agree, set I have read and accepted the agreement > I Agree.
  5. In the MDExchange Server Connection Setup window, click Next. Clinical tests for connectivity.
  6. In the MDExchange Registration Wizard, the Contact Details window displays the practice details that were recorded in the Options Practice tab. Check the details and make any necessary changes. Changes made here are saved to the Practice tab of Clinical Options.
  7. Click Next.
  8. In the Security Options - Location window, select the type of certificate you will use for the digital signing and encrypting of correspondence sent and received via MDExchange. MDExchange certificates are recommended.
  9. Click Next.
  10. In the Setup User Profiles window, select a practitioner.
  11. Click Participate. Select whether the practitioner can participate in MDExchange and how they are to be listed:
    • Public. The practitioner is added to the MDExchange public database and is visible to other registered practitioners in MDExchange.
    • Private. The practitioner is added to the MDExchange public database and assigned a private ID that they use to determine which other practitioners can view them in MDExchange. The practitioner provides the private ID to another practitioner, who uses it to search for them in MDExchange.
    • Do Not Participate. The practitioner can't register for MDExchange.
  12. If you want to select a HESA token as the practitioner's signing certificate for correspondence, click Advanced. Select the HESA token. Click OK.
  13. Make changes as necessary for each practitioner.
  14. Click Next.
  15. In the Ready to Register window, click Back if you want to go back through MDExchange Registration Wizard to review your settings.
  16. Click Register.
  17. The MDExchange Registration Wizard attempts to connect to the MDExchange server to validate and record your settings. A message is displayed when registration is successful. Click OK.
