When you log in for the first time, you must select the database you want to use and
provide details for at least one practitioner.
Before you begin
You must complete the initial start up, eHealth requirements
and review the policy for Clinical.
For more information, refer to Before You Begin Using Clinical.Note: If you are using Clinical with Pracsoft, add a user to Pracsoft first. They will then be
available to Clinical when next opening it. Then, when first logging into Clinical, you will be prompted if
additional information is required.
About this task
Configure the MedicalDirector
Clinical application when you log in to
Clinical for the first time on
your desktop.
Procedure
To log in to Clinical
for the first time:

Double-click the
Clinical icon on your desktop.

In the Log On to MedicalDirector Clinical window, to register
Clinical, select
MD Live Data from the Configuration
list.

When the Licence Details panel is displayed, in the
Licence Details window, enter the Practice
Details and License Key exactly as supplied to
you by MedicalDirector.
Use your own (live) patient database. As this is the first time you have attempted
to run and log in to
MedicalDirector
Clinical.

Click Validate. If your licence key is valid, a green text
message is displayed and the licence details are displayed at the bottom.

To save the License Details, click
Save.

To add a new practitioner, in the Add new practitioner window,
click OK.

In the Add Doctor window, record the user details.

The fields marked with a red
*Asterisk must be completed; the
recording of a doctor's or nurse's
Name,
Address,
Prescriber No.,
Provider No. and
Qualifications
(legal requirement), as these details display on prescriptions. The
Provider No. is used on
Pathology or Radiology forms and added to referral letters:

In the Status field, to indicate the status of the
practitioner or nurse, set either Prescriber or
Locum . For more information, refer to Multi-User Licensing.
Tip: Only two locums are accepted at each clinic.
The Locum option is disabled if there are already two
locums in the database. To add a new one, you must remove one of the other
locums.

If you want to participate in My Health
Record, in the MyHealthRecord Details section, set
Participate in MyHealthRecord and enter your details as you
want them to display within the My Health Record system.

In the ePrescribing via eRx Script Exchange section:
- Electronic Prescribing is enabled by default and
registration is required for participation. Regardless of your choice, you will
be prompted to register for ePrescribing. You can also elect whether or not to
receive a notification electronically when the medications have been dispensed.

- To automatically capitalises the first letter of each word that you type, set
Auto-Capitalise Name.
- Set PKI Encryption to enable the encrypting of e-mail
correspondence sent from Clinical Letter Writer using HESA
PKI Certificate encryption technology.

To save the user details, click OK.

Create a password of 6 to 10 characters that does not include any part of the
practitioner's name.

Click Save.

Practitioner who have a valid licence and to use MDExchange service, register MDExchange. For more information on the
service and manage correspondence, refer to Registering MDExchange.
Results
Clinical is now open and the Select Patient from List window is
displayed.
What to do next
Before you can begin attending to your patients, close the
Select Patient from List window and you need to configure important
settings in the Clinical
application as below:
- To configure your printer on your computer on which you run Clinical, select tab. For more information, refer to Printer Setup.
- In the tab, enter the practice's details, including your HPI-O number. For
more information, refer to Practice's
details.
- Link Clinical to third-party
billing packages. For more information, refer to Links Options.
If you run Pracsoft
in conjunction with Clinical it is not necessary to configure linking, as both applications share the same
patient database. However if you run a third-party billing package, you can
synchronise patient data (added/edited via the billing package) with Clinical.
